Welcome to the Sandhills of North Carolina, where we offer a unique micro-climate of lower humidity and quick draining soil that is enjoyed by over 400 horse farms and 40+ golf courses.

The Walthour-Moss Foundation is a unique area of 4,000 acres, preserved specifically for the enjoyment of all equestrians. Southern Pines, North Carolina is ideal for those who love horses and those who generally love tranquil, beautiful living.    The Walthour-Moss Foundation, which is open to the public, was forged by Virginia Walthour-Moss and her husband William (Pappy) Moss in 1974. This several thousand acre tract of land in the heart of Moore County Horse Country is devoted to nature conservancy and equestrian activities. It provides a sanctuary for wildlife and unique plant species. At the Walthour-Moss Foundation you will find fox hunters, Pony Clubbers, race and steeplechase trainers, trail riders, and world-class competitive athletes.

The acquisition of property for the new competition park, Carolina Horse Park at Five Points, ensures that the equestrian tradition will continue to grow and flourish in this unique area of North CarolinaCarolina Horse Park was born of a vision held by a group of equestrian enthusiasts in North Carolina who were concerned about the dwindling amount of land dedicated to the sport. The Sandhills Equestrian Conservancy (now known as the Carolina Horse Park Foundation), a North Carolina 501(C)3 corporation, was created in 1998. Carolina Horse Park hosted its first events in the spring of 2001: The 11th Annual Southern Pines Horse Trials, and the 50th Running of the Stoneybrook Steeplechase. The calendar continues to grow as new events are added each season.
